Obituary

Emma Mary Porter

94, of Fort Gratiot, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2020.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 6, 1926, daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie (Wise) Suessine.

Emma was the oldest of four children; Helen (Tom) McCan, Josephine (James) Field, and Richard (Laura) Suessine.

Emmar Suessine married Raymond C. Porter on June 12, 1943, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseville, Michigan.

Together they had eight children; Marie (Larry), Gloria (Norman), Janet (William), Roy (Julie), Rosalie (Larry), Ronnie (Juanita), Arthur (Mary), and Raymond Jr. (preceded her in death as an infant).

Emma has 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; daughter, Gloria Kaster; and her sons, Roy, Ronnie, and Raymon II Porter.

Emma was an avid crocheter who started at age 13. She taught all of her girls how to crochet. She made numerous afghans, doilies, and tablecloths. She even made clothes for the baby dolls. Emma loved her rock garden which was full of flowers. Her favorite plant was Hens and Chickens. She had a joy of clipping and saving recipes. Mom was a private person, she never talked about what bothered her, and she was very subtle in her ways.

We loved you mom, we know that you did your best as we did our best trying to make life easier for you.

There will be a celebration of life with family and friends held in the near future. Arrangements were provided by Smith Family Funeral Home of Port Huron.
