Obituary

John Kenneth Mattox

91, of Kimball Township, joined his wife Patricia Mattox of 59 years in Heaven on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at his home peacefully with care provided by his family and Blue Water Hospice.

He was born in Port Huron, Michigan on July 25, 1928, son of the late John H. and Eleanora (Osborne) Mattox.

John Kenneth Mattox married Patricia Fuller on July 10, 1954, in Croswell.

John proudly served his country as a firefighter in the United States Air Force from 1946-1953. He worked for Mueller Brass for 44 years before retiring in 1990. John enjoyed being a snowbird and spending the winter months in Davenport, Fl. Among his other interests, he was an avid card player, he enjoyed sitting by a fire in his backyard, he liked gardening, and loved the family reunions. John was a family man with a kind soul and a big heart. He will be dearly missed by those who loved and knew him.

John is survived by one brother, Ronald David Mattox; three children, JoAnn (William) Parkus of Ypsilanti, Michael (Terry) Mattox of Croswell and Allen Mattox of Kimball; and several nieces and nephews.

His biggest pride and joy were his grandchildren; Tanya Mathis, Todd (Ashley) Mathis, Tristin Kelch, Aaron (Katie Dudas) Parkus, and Kayla Parkus; great-grandchildren, Teal (Joe) Emond, Taryn Mathis, Breeya Mathis, Tyra Berger, Juliana, Kaleigh, and Zander Kelch; and great-great-granddaughter, Aubrie.

He joins his great-great-grandson Cayden Waldorph in Heaven where he is sure to be entertained by the dinosaurs Cayden shows him.

He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Bernice Talbot, Arthur Mattox, Lauretta Cronce, Jean Cronce, Dorothy Mattox, Amy Wade, Ruth Wessel, and Edna Baird.

The family honors the memory of John and invites you to visit and share memories on Sunday, January 26, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Home-Hancock Street. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, January 27, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Max Amstutz will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fort Gratiot.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of your choice or Blue Water Hospice in lieu of flowers.
